Modern Art

Era: 1850+

Modern Art is not an artistic movement in itself. It was a period during which many art movements appeared. Art historians agree that Modern Art begins a little before Impressionism (1850) and ends with Pop Art (1950). This revolution will therefore have changed everything over a period of approximately one hundred years.

The Impressionists broke down barriers. Subsequently, ideas, daring, sciences. Technology and media have propelled art in all directions. Symbolism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Pointillism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Abstract Art, Surrealism, Art Deco and Pop Art have all contributed in their own way to this impressive metamorphosis. With the advent of Modern Art, artistic movements no longer follow one another, they coexist!

Modern Art in painting has also been influenced by thinkers from other horizons. Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud and Albert Einstein who introduced new ideas on psychology, science and society are the most important. Modernist artists often sought to express profound truths about the human condition, perception and reality, using unconventional techniques and avant-garde subjects.
