Introduction

Since 1985, Old Québec has appeared on the prestigious historic UNESCO World Heritage list as a cultural property.

It is in the heart of this historical, cultural and artistic site that Marie-Josée Bouchard and Christian Provost set up the Rare & Différent boutique in 2019. Two exclusives are already combined in the success recipe of the two entrepreneurs. 5D Games and Lotus Lamps to which the Umbrelland brand will quickly be added. But the recipe is incomplete, we must be inspired and integrate into this new exceptional environment.

A local market study reveals that, in addition to the many hotels and the multitude of great gastronomic restaurants, there are 75 art galleries in the immediate vicinity. The art market is present, it’s undeniable. Globally, the art market is booming and will be propelled by the effects of the pandemic. Digital technology is transforming art which, paradoxically is reviving increased interest in the great classics of the Great Masters. Da Vinci, Van Gogh and Picasso are as famous as Marilyn, Elvis or Einstein! Despite the countless Museums and exhibitions that praise the Great Masters, no gallery in Québec exploits this market. Internationally, no one seems interested in the latest discoveries that science and technology bring to the great Masterpieces. From this amalgam, from the effervescence of this situation, the idea of Great Masters Collection was born!

Christian Provost trained in Art History, the talented graphic artist Élie Miron made his contribution and in June 2022, Great Masters Collection (GMC) was officially born.

Our Slogan

GMC Concept

Great Masters Collection (GMC) selects the most remarkable artworks of the Great  Masters of painting.

From a quality authorized electronic file, GMC performs an electronic restoration to create an Official Reproduction (OR).

GMC produces numbered Official Reproductions (OR) which become the most beautiful versions since the original.

The base price of RO increases according to the popularity of the artwork, the first 10 Official Reproductions (OR) are offered according to the principle of added value.

GMC Quality

Although our slogan is “Making the inaccessible accessible”, we want our customers to discover, or rediscover, the most remarkable masterpieces in the history of painting, without sacrifice the quality of our products.

Electronic Files: Our Digital Restorations are made from the highest quality high resolution electronic files available.

Scientific and technological studies: For each masterpiece, we consult available scientific and technological studies available in order to collect as much relevant information as possible allowing us to correct the file and offer the most beautiful version of the artwork since the original.

Digital restoration: As our digital restoration aims to only correct damage caused by time and handling, all useful information and documentation will be used and will allow our graphic artist to offer a restored artwork of very high quality.

The ideal canvas: Our Official Reproductions are reproduced on 20 mil acid-free canvas. thickness and density of 380gsm. The canvas is made of 35% Cotton and 65% Polyester. It offers a whiteness of more than 120% and an opacity of 98.50%. This medium will allow the perfect combination between artistic rendering, flexibility and durability.

A quality print: We use water-pigmented HP Latex inks. These are designed to avoid the risks associated with solvent, eco-solvent and UV inks. Additionally, their low-emission printing gives them a major advantage over traditional solutions. Printing is carried out from seven basic colors offering a final result of very high precision. UL Green guard Gold certified inks provide 60+ years of fade resistance.

Presentation Standards

1- All Official Reproductions (OR) are printed by giclée technique on excellent quality canvas.

2- The ORs are presented in Gallery mode (1½” false frames).

3- Presentation in Gallery mode allows framing but does not require it. GMC favors unframed presentation which reduces surface area, weight and allows substantial savings while leaving 100% of the interest and attention to the artwork.

4- The alphanumeric identification (IDA) of the artwork is done in a specific place on the bottom frame on the back of the OR.

5- The IDA of the artwork is made up of 7 pieces of data. The first three are three letters associated exclusively with the Great Master. The next two are two numbers that identify the specific artwork of the Great Master and the last four are the numbers that numbers the piece.

6- The photo credit of the electronic file of the original artwork as well as the Copyright deposit data from the RO are detailed on a line under the IDA.

7- On each side, above the frames of the OR, three prints can appear confirming that the part is an Official Reproduction of the GMC brand. First of all, the GMC signature in black and white. Followed by the symbolic acronym indicating whether the piece is of original size or a reproduction of a different size and a printed Magnum Opus logo if the artwork is considered the most important in the Great Master's catalog.
