Ranking

The ranking of masterpieces of painting as well as that of the great masters were established from a compilation of more than 100 other rankings and selections. Museums, museum curators, people in the field of art, publishers of specialized magazines and books, art critics, dedicated websites, etc. The sources were numerous and varied. In the end, more than 1,500 artworks and nearly 500 painters were analyzed and compared.

The GMC rankings therefore do not reflect our opinion, but rather are the serious and methodical work of compiling the opinions of several stakeholders with multiple expertises and interests. Let us recognize from the outset that such rankings are both debatable and subjective. The GMC rankings can, however, be considered interesting and credible indicators.
