I Want You for U.S. Army
Year of creation: 1917
Created in 1917 by James Montgomery Flagg, the poster "I Want You for U.S. Army" used to help recruit soldiers for the First World War, would become one of the most iconic posters in History. Flagg, a versatile artist as a painter, cartoonist and especially illustrator, was inspired by the British poster "Lord Kitchener Wants You" of 1914 and refreshed the legendary American character UNCLE SAM, known since 1812. More than 4 million copies were produced, each poster worth at least $5,000 today. In 1951, the United States Congress officially recognized Uncle Sam as a national symbol of the United States.
