Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Grey and Blue
Year of creation: 1921
Piet Mondrian, a Dutch painter who had recently settled in Paris, aspired to create a universal and pure art. In 1921, he created "Composition with a Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Grey and Blue." Despite the use of simple, perpendicular lines and primary colours, Mondrian succeeded in composing an abstract artwork rich in rhythm and dynamism, while preserving perfect harmony. Jo Steijling, a friend visiting his home, was seduced by the painting and bought it. Encouraged by this success, Mondrian rented an apartment and a studio. Neoplasticism was born, abstract art, fashion and architecture of the 20th century would be completely transformed.
