Mont Sainte Victoire
Mont Sainte Victoire
Year of Creation: 1888
Cézanne, originally from Aix-en-Provence, neighboring Sainte-Victoire, spent 40 years of his life immortalizing the mountain, which appears in 87 of his artworks. This painting, with its striking and unexpected colors, is considered a precursor to Cubism, influencing artists such as Picasso and Braque. Originally sold by Cézanne to the renowned gallery owner Ambroise Vollard, it passed through the hands of the greatest collectors in the history of art. This artwork is now part of the collection of Paul G. Allen (1953-2018), co-founder of Microsoft with Bill Gates.
