Sunflowers
Sunflowers
Year of creation: 1888
Sunflowers is a recurring theme for Vincent van Gogh. He would produce three separate series. His first series, composed of flowers placed on tables, would be painted during his stay in Paris between 1886 and 1887. In the City of Lights, he would note Paul Gauguin’s interest in these flowers. The second series of sunflowers in pots would be produced in Arles in 1888. The avowed aim of this series was to decorate his friend Gauguin’s room. The third series, produced in January 1889, called repetitions, which are identical replicas of the artwork we have chosen, which is kept at the National Gallery in London.
