Almond Blossom
Almond Blossom
Year of Creation: 1890
In early 1890, Vincent van Gogh remained hospitalized in St-Rémy-de-Provence to treat his mental health. His brother Théo and his wife Johanna announced to him that they were expecting a child. He was asked if he would accept that the child be named Vincent van Gogh Jr. in his honor and he was offered to become godfather. Van Gogh said he was honored and accepted. As a gift, he gave the couple a soft, colorful and lively work, Almond Tree in Bloom. This plant began to flower very early in the year and Vincent was surrounded by it. The artist also confided that he was inspired by Japanese prints that he particularly admired.
